The Wedding Season is almost upon us and I am putting together some information about how cutting garden weddings work. It is a little different from the way florists traditionally work....we can't guarantee particular blooms and we can't work to a very specific colour brief, but we can promise beauty and scent. The flowers we use are often not available commercially via traditional retail, event florists or florist wholesalers. At The Garden Gate I specialise in using British flowers many grown in my cutting garden, all seasonal and freshly cut. My style is very natural and wild looking, country flowers. Where possible I try to work with out florists foam as it is not eco friendly being made from petrochemicals and doesn't biodegrade, it also doesn't suit the more delicate blooms I like to use. I have written a fact sheet which will help people understand a little more about how I work and hopefully be encouraged to consider using English country flowers for their wedding. Please contact me if you would like a copy.
My story in flowers started as a child growing a tiny patch of London Pride Saxifraga...also known as Whimsey or Look Up and Kiss Me! Fast forward to 8 years ago when I started a City and Guilds training in floristry. I qualified as a florist and then to deepen my growing knowledge and skills I trained in horticulture as well. I trained under a WRAGS scheme at Darsham Nurseries and at Somerleyton Hall. Developing a passion for both growing and designing/arranging British garden flowers, I planted a cutting garden. Having become increasingly concerned about where and how flowers are grown, coupled with a love of British grown flowers. and natural styling, I now specialise in growing and using beautiful British grown flowers to make romantic natural designs. for weddings, events, gifts and much more.
