I have just come back from a short trip to Munich and I took the chance to look at the flower stalls at the market, the municipal street planting and the Easter decorations. Continental floral design is very highly regarded and you can see why. They use a very stylish combination of materials often including twigs. For Easter there seems to be a tradition of using Pussy Willow and Myrtle. I loved the flowing naturalistic municpal planting using bulbs with flowers of varying heights and subtle colour schemes. The market had stalls selling mainly foliages including Forsythia just coming into bud and Cherry Blossom.
I am growing a good range of Tulips this year and they are now coming into full bloom. The variety called Air have proved particularly delicious but are over now. Coming through are the lily flowered pinks and whites....China Pink and White Triumphator. Growing in tubs which works well for me, I don't get such good results planting in the beds. I refresh with new bulbs each year as I don't find they re flower well year on year. They are best cut just as they develop colour and they do continue growing once cut, tending towards the light which produces their wild stem shapes. I am now including them in my bouquets, sometimes I wire them to keep them straighter. Do contact me if you would like a tulip bouquet, delivered locally or sent by post.
My story in flowers started as a child growing a tiny patch of London Pride Saxifraga...also known as Whimsey or Look Up and Kiss Me! Fast forward to 8 years ago when I started a City and Guilds training in floristry. I qualified as a florist and then to deepen my growing knowledge and skills I trained in horticulture as well. I trained under a WRAGS scheme at Darsham Nurseries and at Somerleyton Hall. Developing a passion for both growing and designing/arranging British garden flowers, I planted a cutting garden. Having become increasingly concerned about where and how flowers are grown, coupled with a love of British grown flowers. and natural styling, I now specialise in growing and using beautiful British grown flowers to make romantic natural designs. for weddings, events, gifts and much more.
